Red Velvet Cupcakes

I baked these for the shoe crazy Charlene for her birthday!
Red velvet cupcakes is one of my favourite recipes, but I don’t bake them very often.

I bought these plastic icing ready-made shoes, one set in shocking pink with a black rose embellishment and one set in black with a bright pink rose on it.
I’m hoping to get myself a set of moulds so I can start making my own shoes and such…And here’s the finished product! The black cupcake cups I found at the same shop I bought the shoes at, and the icing under the shoes is cream cheese icing. I was a little miffed that it wasn’t properly white- but I didn’t buy the same cream cheese I always buy. Char was very chuffed with them, and everyone was very complimentary.

Under The Sea Cupcakes

I made these cupcakes for The Kid’s first birthday party, and I had such fun!
I first searched the interweb for pictures of fondant sea animals to use as a reference- and was disappointed with what I could find… but it gave me a starting point.
Then I went and bought the pettinice fondant icing and just about every colour they had (the powder kind)! I started making the animals last Tuesday night as they are easier to handle when they’ve dried a little, and I saw a YouTube video a while ago on how to do the two-tone icing and this was the ideal opportunity to try it!
The cupcakes are vanilla, with a plain butter-icing (half of which I coloured blue the the powder type colouring), with the fondant sea animals on top.
I was really pleased with the finished cupcakes!

I have got to work out how to photograph them without over exposing them!
And these were taken by Jeanette, who was photographing the party, and lemme tell you- if you can, you need to hire her for your photo shoot “needs”. She’s incredible!

Fun With Cupcakes

My Glugster’s older brother’s two kidlets- S (5) and T (2)- decorating red velvet cupcakes with cherries, hundreds & thousands, coloured sugar, and all sorts of other goodies! Pirate themed decorations for him and fairy themed for her.

Easily the most colourful cupcakes ever!!!

The family came to visit us for a potjie last Sunday, and I thought this might keep the kidlets busy for a little while, and be something different for them to do.

Chocolate And Bar One…

I baked these for a colleague who has just found out she’s pregnant with their second baby- and she asked if I would mind bringing cupcakes since she’d be sharing an office with me for a couple of days.
This is my current favourite chocolate cupcake recipe, and these each had half of a mini-Bar One baked inside and I decorated them with choclate icing and chocolate discs. I used too much butter in these so they were very mousse-like when still in batter form, and then overflowed the cups! Yummy nonetheless.
